Job Summary
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Internal Control Officer – E-Channels to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate reconciliation, timely settlements, and regulatory compliance across all electronic payment channels. You will be responsible for monitoring e-banking operations, safeguarding against revenue leakage, and ensuring proper control mechanisms are in place for POS, ATM, and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. E-Channels Settlement & Reconciliation

Oversee daily settlements and ensure timely remittance of all transactions to prevent income leakage.

Reconcile settlement activities across platforms including NIBSS, Mastercard, Interswitch, NIP, and VISA.

Verify accuracy of financial entries for third-party processors like E-Tranzact and Unified Payments.

Identify and escalate discrepancies; track resolution to closure.
2. Revenue Collection Monitoring

Review revenue collection applications such as Pay-Direct and E-Pay.

Ensure correct remittance of funds collected on behalf of billers.

Confirm accurate accounting entries for collections and associated remittances.

Monitor fees and commissions to detect and prevent income leakages.
3. E-Banking & Online Transactions Review

Audit platforms like WemaPay, PayDirect, and other online channels for compliance.

Track salary payments, vendor disbursements, and pension contributions made via e-channels.

Enforce proper authorization protocols and segregation of duties.

Monitor and mitigate risks of electronic fraud and unauthorized access.
4. POS & ATM Operations Control

Ensure strict adherence to policies governing POS and ATM usage.

Monitor POS transactions processed within branches for fraud and accuracy.

Review ATM cash settlements and investigate unresolved ATM surplus entries.

Ensure timely reconciliation and resolution of ATM transaction exceptions.
5. Instant Card Issuance Oversight

Monitor instant card issuance processes for compliance and authorization.

Maintain accurate inventory and audit trails for blank and issued cards.

Prevent card-related fraud through secure issuance protocols.

Verify that applicable card fees are properly applied and recorded.
6. Security, Risk & Compliance

Prevent unauthorized transaction processing across online and mobile banking platforms.

Enforce robust authentication and data protection controls.

Conduct periodic audits to identify vulnerabilities and implement risk mitigation measures.

Ensure compliance with the bank’s information security and e-banking policies.
7. Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

Ensure adherence to CBN and regulatory guidelines governing e-channels.

Generate reports on exceptions and non-compliant activities for escalation.

Maintain comprehensive documentation and audit trails for all electronic transactions.

Prepare periodic control performance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Critical Success Factors

High availability and performance of core banking and payment systems (e.g., Finacle, NIBSS, Interswitch, E-Tranzact).

Deep understanding of electronic transaction workflows and reconciliation procedures.

Strong capability to detect anomalies in financial and settlement reports.

Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory compliance for electronic payment channels.

Excellent analytical, investigative, and reporting skills.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

3–5 years of relevant experience in e-banking operations, internal controls, or transaction monitoring.

Professional certifications such as CISA, ACA, ACCA, or CBN-related credentials are highly desirable.
